The Effectual Fervent Prayers Of The Righteous Man Availeth Much

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16)
The word “fervent” means to have intense feeling and enthusiasm for something. In the book of James, the writer uses it in the context of effective prayer. Effectual is the producing of or being able to produce a desired effect.

Righteous means to be morally right or justifiable. To be virtuous. To act in accordance with Devine or moral law. To be righteous is to be right with our Father, God. Remember not to confuse righteous with self righteousness. If one is self righteous,  it goes against the will of God. A pure and honest heart is a very crucial element of being righteous. Psalms 51 speaks about creating in me a clean heart, and renewing a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit away from me.

The definition of renew is to return to, begin again, restart, or recommence.

The word “availeth” is the Greek word “ischuo” from the root word “ischus.”  God’s Word is its own context for study.  Ischuo is used 28 times in the New Testament.

Acts 19:10 says that for two years the believers continued learning and speaking God’s Word and that All of ASIA heard the Word.  In Acts 19:20 the word of God grew in the lives of the believers until it prevailed. It had great effectiveness.  People were healed and the adversary was conquered in their lives.

We who are righteous in Christ Jesus.  We have God’s Word and the spirit of God living within.  When we pray for one another, our prayers have power.  They are effective, and powerful and shall be done with all sincerity.
