How To Run A Successful Family And Ministry
To have a wonderful Christian race, you need to have a successful ministry and you cannot have a successful ministry without having a successful family. Family and Ministry determine the “smoothness” of your destiny.
What is Ministry?
Ministry is the pursuit of God’s vision and plan of God for your life. It is not enough to discover God’s plan for your life, you have to pursue it. The ministry is not limited to the pulpit; farming, trading, dancing, etc. can be your ministry.
What is Family?
To get the right definition of family, you need to understand what the verb marry is.
The verb “Marry” means combining something with another; a successful combination of a man and a woman in a holy wedlock.
A family is a group of people consisting of parents, children and sometimes close relations. Marriage is the foundation of the family. The depth of relationship in the marriage will also determine the depth of relationship in the family. To have a good family, you need to first have a good marriage because one leads to another.
The minister and his family 1Timothy 3:5, 12-13
“For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?”
Ministry starts from the home, just as charity begins at home. The ministry and the family cannot be divided; success in ministry is dependent on how successful the minister handles his family.
Success in a home depends on total adherence to biblical marriage principles. God can only intervene in a home where His instructions are being adhered to. Family success is not a gift or luck, but God is the author; it is consciously working in line with God’s principles.
The minister as the head of the home, instructs, rebuke with firmness in his home Ephesians 5:23. The minister must be in charge and must be able to control his family in line with the word of God. Proverbs 25:28, 1Timothy 3:5.
Adam was not responsible as the head of the home, so he failed and lost his ministry to the deceit of the devil. Eli the priest was not responsible as the head of the family, 1 Samuel 2:12, 21-22.
God designed family life for success and not failure; he proved it to us by being practically involved in the first family unit in the scripture. Although, it is contrary to what is happening in the world today.
How to prove the reality of family success
It is rooted in divinity: God made Adam take a deep and took a rib from his side and brought forth a woman Genesis 2:21-23.
God is the initiator which tells us that family has its root in divinity; the Genesis account is an illustration of the first wedding ceremony. It implies that God is the foundation of every family and marriage.
It is blessed by God: Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” The word fruitful also means successful.
Importance of family success to a minister
It is biblically and historically proven that successful ministers or ministry are usually a product of a successful marriage. Acts 1:8 charity begins at home. The light that shines the farthest, shines brightest at the base.
As a minister, it is what you have, do or know you teach others. Let your family bring joy and not sorrow; God uses your home as the parameter for how well you are rated in the Kingdom 1 Peter 3:7, 1 Timothy 3:4-5, Proverbs 14:1
God’s blueprint for a successful home
• Jeremiah 29:11 God wants you to succeed in marriage because marriage is His idea. Genesis 2:18, Genesis 1:31. If it is God’s, then it must be good, honorable and possess the ability to work well.
• Marriage is designed to work Ephesians 5:21-23
• Marriage is a gift from God Genesis 1:26
• Marriage is what you think it is to be Proverbs 23:7; think good and not evil about marriage. If you don’t fill your mind with good things about marriage, the devil will fill it with evils things
Foundation of a successful home
God is the foundation of success in life, marriage inclusive. Success in the home is the foundation for all-round success Psalms 11:3. Marital success depends on the place you give to God in your home. The reason most families are apart is because God is not involved.
Hindrances to fulfilled marriage
Stubbornness: unwilling to change, to be adamant, to be fixed in purpose and opinion, and to refuse positive development. Stubbornness is an enemy of honor and dignity. Avoid conflicting decisions at home; by divine design, the man is the head of the family. Women should allow their husbands to take the FINAL decision as regards to the progress of the home. Stubbornness is stumbling block to a happy home, run away from it. 1 Samuel 15:23 As a woman, you don’t win battles by confrontation, but by prayers and submission.
Bitterness: bitterness defiles the mind, the body and, the soul. Avoid it by all means; do not go to bed angry with your spouse, ensure you talk it out before the sun goes down Ephesians 4:26.
How to overcome family challenges
Just because you are a Christian doesn’t mean your home cannot have challenges; it is the conscious steps you take that make your marriage sweet. To overcome family challenges there are some forces you need to fight against;
Covetousness: the strong desire to possess something that belongs to someone else. Luke 12:15 “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” Discontentment is what usually drives people to covetousness. Life is in phases and men are in sizes; just because your friend has something and you don’t, doesn’t mean you will not have it. Wait for it; God will supply all your needs at the appointed time Proverbs 4:18. As a Christian, do not compare your chapter one with someone else’s chapter twenty.
The cure for covetousness is contentment 1Timothy 3:8. As a woman, do not nag or compare your spouse with your friend’s spouse. Proverbs 16:18, Proverbs 28:19
Barrenness: Deuteronomy 7:14 “Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. Marriage is designed for fruitfulness, barrenness is a curse, but thank God Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law. The devil is responsible for barrenness John 10:10 he is the killer of joy in the home. To overcome barrenness, you go for the light of the Word and keep declaring your fruitfulness until the situation is changed. John 1:5 if you don’t give up, God will show up.
Impatient: this is the opposite of patient; the inability to deal calmly with situation or wait for something Isaiah 28:16 “Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” The cure for impatient is patient, backed by the Word of Faith James 1:4 “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
Instrument for overcoming challenges
Faith and Trust is the active instrument for overcoming challenges Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Psalms 125:1 “They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed but abideth for ever.”
ENCOURAGE YOURSELF: If you want to explode in your ministry, then put God first in your family.
