Jada Pinkett Smith was brave enough to share her devastating story of her hair loss. Jada Pinkett Smith talks about her hair loss openly as difficult as it was. It is an unfortunate travesty that more and more women seem to experience today, just as men do. We thought it was just a male issue with balding, but not anymore. There is help for this problem as you read further.
I have never seen more women with a massive hair loss in my life, but I would rather be bald than to have a facial hair. Which to me is the most horrific experience a woman should have to face. There is something absolutely wrong with Aunt Mable’s beard being fuller than Uncle Freddie’s, I digress.
All joking aside, for all women this has to be the most difficult thing to deal with. For African American women we can camouflage our thinning hair by going natural with our hair, which means to chemicals what so ever. It also means keeping the hair deep conditioned and moisturized at all times. Various hair care products to assist in this process, and limitations on the amount of heat used in our hair.
I have to say for women of other ethnicities I am uncertain as to what is best for you, since i am an African American woman. My belief would be to minimize heat, wear loose ponytails, and no chemicals would be a great start, and as you know there are clinics that help restore your hair for a hefty little fee, and of course wigs.
Let me encourage you if you decide to go completely bald, I have seen some of the most women who were bald. Personally to me it’s a better look than wearing a wig. With a little makeup and jewelry, a nw attitude, I can be the perfect look. Embrace your new look, and remember it’s really about the attitude and how you keep your self up.
Hair replacement surgery a remedy for those losing or thinning hair:
Many believe the best option for replacing hair lost is a transplant. Many years ago, doctors used plugs that resembled cornrows (definitely not natural looking). In 2018, people have various choices. You might choose “the strip method” when the doctor surgically removes a strip of hair from the back of your head, dissect each hair graft under a microscope, and plants the individual grafts onto hair thin areas of your scalp with very small incisions.
“If you like to wear your hair short and do not want a scar, you might decide on a “scarless” hair transplant,” says Dr. Joyce. Also known as Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), grafts are harvested one at a time with tiny pinches that heal virtually undetected so you can still buzz your head. “If you lack enough donor hair on your head, we can then use FUE extractions with body hair such as on your chest, stomach, back, and even the pubic area,” says Dr. Joyce.
Regrowth rates with FUE is almost as high as with the strip method, and there is less down time three to five days to heal compared to 10 days for the strip method. It’s a good idea to make sure your doctor is a member of the International Society for Hair Restoration Surgery.
Encourage yourself: We can no longer refer to male pattern balding, because it’s not just men anymore. Do you suppose this epidemic has anything to do with the water or the foods we drink and eat? Follow these simple methods if you have not completely gone bald. Shampooing your hair with a moisturizing shampoo, deep condition, minimal heat, dyes or hair color, wear loose ponytails as to not put so much stress on your hair, at lastly a regular scalp massage.
