The Church in 2019

What Good Is The Church In 2019?

I kept pondering on this question the moment I got the topic for the blog. What Good is the Church in 2019? Even though it is a simple question, it has a deeper meaning that the sentence. Three verses kept popping in my head John21:15-17 “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”

Jesus Christ is so concerned about His people that He instructed Peter three times “Feed my sheep”. I have come to understand that the Church is a service house where God’s people go to get serviced or fed. Irrespective of the era, the Church serves for the same purpose. However, times have changed, and some ministers are flowing with the tide to teach the gospel.

In the beginning, it was not so

Three days ago, I got news about how a pastor who committed suicide, prior to that a lot of suicide cases have been on my social newsfeed, and the sad thing is the majority of these people are millennial, and the reasons for these suicide cases are lack of jobs, heartbreaks, which led to depression. There are many churches in this era than any other past eras. And a massive influx of souls has been recorded.

This begs the question; why are there so many people suffering from depression, giving up on life, divorce cases etc. is it that the gospel of Christ is not valid? God forbid!
Then why are His people suffering? Why is the crime rate high even when the church attendances are doubling?

What is wrong in today’s Church?

The Church is in dire need of help, the gospel of love, hope, and faith are no longer valid because the sheep are hungry; they are starving from the truth. We are interested in building the church edifice than building the people. We spend more time preaching about earthly possessions that we forget to emphasize the essential things that come without a price tag.

We leave in an era where members raise money to build or buy church items but pray to God for divine supplies when a member is in need. There is bound to be chaos when the Church fails to feed the sheep/members spiritual foods, and physical foods.

James 2:14-26 “14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without [a]your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works, faith was made perfect?

23 And the Scripture was fulfilled, which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

What Good is the Church in 2019?

It is never too late to retrace our steps, to turn back and follow the ways of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus gave two commandments, and they are what we need to save the lost sheep and survive these trying times. Matthew 22:37-39 “Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

1- Love God with all your heart
2- Love your neighbor as yourself

These are the commandments that birth other commandments; if you love God, you will not want to see His children go hungry, naked, etc. also, if you love your neighbor as yourself, you will not steal or cheat him, you will not lie against him, neither will you kill him etc. to get his property.
These are what the Church should teach in 2019, how to love God and show love to your neighbor.

The gospel should not center on sowing financial seeds into the kingdom or do this and that to attract riches to your home.

Encourage Yourself In the Lord

Romans 14:17 “for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is of peace and love; if what you are hearing puts you under pressure, then it is not from God.

  1. Just before my late wife’s passing she were visited by a Chaplain… he ask my wife if she had a religion and she answered “No”… he then ask my wife if she believed in the hereafter, she said “Yes”.. the Chaplain said “Good, it is what is in the heart that matters, not the name above a door”… 🙂

  2. The church needs to hit the reset button and get back to the actual Scriptures. Right now, they have the form of godliness and consistently week by week even deny its power–when they ignore the Sabbath commandment, the feast days instead of their ginned up borrowed Christmas and Easter, and the rest of the Torah. It’s not an either/or decision. Rev 14:12 says the overcoming of the saints was in their testimony of Yahshua Messiah AND keeping the commandment of the Most High. It takes a special type of rebellion to try to nip and tuck that into abrogating them. Time is short and judgement IS beginning in the house.
