DIVINE PROTECTION III

DIVINE PROTECTION IN 2019 AND BEYOND…

My prayer for you: I declare God’s divine promises of protection over you and your family: May you dwell in the secret place of safety—May no evil come near you nor your loved ones—No disease shall posses your body—You shall not walk in terror but peace. I apply the blood of the everlasting covenant of Christ over your dwelling. I pray against all the evil forces assigned against you in 2019 and beyond in the mighty name of Jesus the Christ; Amen.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because, He has anointed me to preach the gospel… – Luke 4:18

Fear Not, for I am God!

According to Isaiah 41:10-13 the scriptures informs us to be not fearful, for our God is with us. No matter what situation lies before us, God will help us, He will never leave or forsake us. This is a promise we can count on.

Isaiah 41:10-13

10) Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

11)“Behold, all those who were incensed against you
Shall be ashamed and disgraced;
They shall be as nothing,
And those who strive with you shall perish.

12) You shall seek them and not find them—
[A]Those who contended with you.
Those who war against you
Shall be as nothing,
As a nonexistent thing.

13) For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand,
Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’

Encourage Yourself In The Lord

(Numbers 23:19)

“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”

Winning Souls

The Act Of Soul Winning

First, I would like to say big congratulations to you for making it this far to the New Year, I sincerely hope you have started acting on your various New Year resolution. Let me quickly input here that if you are finding it difficult already in this New Year, it means you have not invited your Maker- the Holy Spirit to help you achieve your plans…yes, even your soul winning plans if you ask him to; He is a gentleman.  Simply ask for guidance or assistance.

The act of soul winning unlike what some of us think, is not all about taking your bible and preaching to someone about Christ. No, there is more to soul winning, and I pray God grants you the understanding as you read this article- Amen.

Our first duty as Christians is to lead people to salvation- to tell them about Jesus Christ, how He came to die for EVERYONE to save them, and give them abundant life. Mark 16:15- “15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Five Misconceptions of soul winning

A lot of misconceptions about soul winning that need to be clear- as stated earlier, soul winning is more than taking your bible, walking down the street, and preaching to anyone who cared to listen. Below are the misconceptions of soul winning

Soul winning is the pastor’s duty: One of the wrong beliefs any Christian can have is to believe soul winning is a special duty of the clerics, the pastors, evangelists, apostles, or deacons/deaconesses. You must not be a holder of any post in the church before you can preach Christ to people. The instruction is for every believer, including you and me Mark 16:15 proves it.

Soul winning is to increase the number of the church:  Another misconception of soul winning is to increase the local assembly. Unfortunately, many of us are guilty of this, including pastors. What we call soul winning today is church winning- the ability to win someone over to your church. We tend to preach church and not Christ. Don’t get me wrong; it is very okay to invite someone to your church, however, that is not the main reason for soul winning. Christians should be more interested in saving the soul of the unbeliever than adding another seat to the assembly. This has made a lot of people to be in church but not in touch with their Savior. Until you focus on Christ, and not the church (the building), you cannot conclusively show people the way.

Soul winning is to talk to people about Christ only:  Like I said, there is more to soul winning than preaching God’s word on the street or neighborhood. Do you know your actions speak louder than the utterances of your word? As a matter of fact, people describe you by what you do, rather than what you say.

One of the reasons you are not winning souls to Christ may be your attitude towards the people around you. Can people around you boldly say you are a Christian when you are not there? You cannot preach goodness, kindness, longsuffering and your attitude towards colleagues, friends,  loved ones and even strangers shows the opposite. To save people from destruction, your character and the words you preach must be in harmony.

You dictate who comes to Christ by preaching to them: sometimes,  I hear Christians say “oh I brought this sister to Christ, I brought that brother to Christ” “If not for me, that family would have continued in sin”. Listen, I don’t mean to burst your bubbles, but you are so wrong! Whenever someone gives his or her life to Christ, it is not you working. It shows the Holy Spirit is working; you don’t have the power to change the heart of anyone. The Scripture says for the heart of the kings is in His hands, He turns it to whichever direction in He pleases- Proverbs 21:1

Secondly, Jesus Christ in John 15:16- “16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”

It is true you are the one talking to the lost souls, but it is the Holy Spirit that is working inside of you that is changing the lives of the persons. The earlier you understand this, the more natural evangelism becomes for you. That is why it is advisable to pray to God to use your life (character) and not just your words to change the lives of people around you.

Praying is not part of Soul winning: John 4:36 –  “And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.”

Your prayer is as effective as your preaching and your lifestyle. Believe it or not, someone prayed for your salvation. As you go about your daily activities, endeavor to remember the unbelievers in your prayers. Pray for their salvation; it is as important as going to talk to someone about Christ. In fact, you need to intercede for them first, before going out to speak to them.

The above five misconceptions are some of the things why soul winning seem to be an uphill task for Christians yearning to make positive impacts in life.

Conclusion: Live an exemplary life so that people around you who are not Christians, will see the reasons to believe in Our Lord Jesus Christ. You cannot act like a “lion” and preaching the message of the Lamb. Be the reason someone believes there is God. Secondly, ask for guidance, ask for direction from the Holy Spirit, and He will guide you on how to preach the Gospel of Jesus whether in prayers, deeds or words.

Encourage Yourself: One who wins souls must be wise.

From Death to Life

Thought for Today: And you hath He quickened            -Ephesians 2:1
Memory Verse: So will not we go back from You:  quicken us, and we will call upon Your name. Turn us again,    O Lord God of hosts, cause Your face to shine; and we shall be saved. – Psalm 80:18-19 KJV
Bible reading: Ephesians 2:1-13

And you hath He quickened…

-Ephesians 2:1

’Tis the dead soul who knows the quickening power of the Spirit. Once dead because of sin—a child of disobedience, without and within. Now, having been made alive unto God, the writer directs the believer’s attention backward to his dark past—albeit, for good reason—thus, bringing glory to the One who paved the way; translating him from darkness into the kingdom of His dear Son, to say: “You used to live in sin just like the rest of the world, walking according to the prince of the power of the air.” But God, who loved us, took on “damaged goods” —second-hand commodities, if you will— and made us accepted in the Beloved.  The moment the gospel was preached, our old taskmaster instantly faced defeat. It was on that unforgettable day our soul found relief.

Convicted in the heart because of sin —– turning from a wicked worldly den. Filled with ungodly pleasures once enjoyed, now disgraceful and shameful, so we hung our heads.  But only for a moment until we heard what God said “Even though you were dead because of sin, through my Son you have life whom I raised up again.” Who is the Son? He is the Christ the Anointed one! And where is this Christ? He is seated in the heavenlies, a position of great honor and glory. Seated on the right hand of the Father making intercession for us all; far above all authorities—principalities, powers, and might; a lowly Lamb, now a matchless contender.

The quickened soul is raised with Christ, more than a conqueror is he. This same God has put all things under His feet; therefore, all things are under our feet. Once considered Uncircumcised, we henceforth reap the benefits of being seated with the King of kings. How befitting that one should rejoice in looking back at what they—used to be.  Wretched sinners were we, that would include thee be! What a great testimony of how Christ Himself came and preached peace to thee— reconciling us though we were afar off, now brought near, by His own blood.  Lost; now found, blind, but now we see. Though we dare not boast in ourselves, for by grace through faith is this gift received.  Quickened! Yes, alive—alive—forevermore! Clinging to the everlasting arm, never more to roam. Oh, let the voices of victory ring, with the praises of the enlightened soul now sing!

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ for good works. Thus, God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”  – Ephesians 2:10

Our debt is to Christ…Him only we owe. For the power displayed by such great love bestow—upon us that we are granted to share in His blessings above. Privileged indeed to look back and see, the great works the Son has wrought in thee.

PRAYER OF THANKS: Holy Father, I give you honor and glory for your great mercy and love you have bestowed upon me. I pause to bless your holy name and to give you thanks today for quickening my soul from death to life by the power of the Spirit. Please Lord, let my praises rise before your throne as a sweet-smelling savor. In Jesus’ mighty name.

I wandered so aimless – life filled with sin – I wouldn’t let my dear Savior in – Then Jesus came like stranger in the night – Praise the Lord I saw the light – I saw the light, I saw the light – No more darkness, no more night – Now I’m so happy, no sorrow in sight – Praise the Lord I saw the light

Trust Issues

Overcoming Trust Issues

Trust issues have always been one of the significant problems in relationships- no matter the kind of relationship have, you need trust to make it bloom. Millions of people face this challenge every day, and sadly, not everyone has the key to overcome the “plague” that has eaten deep into our relationships.

If you are facing this challenge in your relationship, you are not alone. I had this challenge, but finding solutions to this problem has been an uphill task. I sometimes cry myself to sleep because of the negative thoughts that always pop up in my head whenever I think about a family member or my partner.

I get mad over nothing, it was a plague, and it ate me so deep that I was scared… too scared to get close to someone.

To get a clearer picture of the situation, I have to narrow it down to my relationship with my partner. Everything he does or does not do was suspicious; if he does not call, as usual, I start to feel “maybe is no longer “feeling us” and he is getting ready to quit”.

Hear this, when you start feeding your mind with negative thoughts, the devil will start showing you things that are not even there to begin with. The mind is so powerful that even God told us to be careful of what we think in Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.”

You cannot stop a bird from flying over your head, but you can prevent it from building a nest. In the same way, you cannot stop some thoughts from crossing through your mind, but you can stop it from planting a seed that will eventually affect your actions towards the people around you.

Negative thoughts trigger trust issues

The Word of God according to Apostle Paul told us in the book of Philippians 4:8-9 showed us what to think about all the time

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”

When you focus on the good in people, you will start to see the good parts. However, I was watching Pastor Creflo Dollar on his YouTube channel- Overcoming Trust Issues. I must say, it totally changed my orientation about relationships.  I will be sharing with you’re a few but power thins I learned just by watching the video.

How to overcome trust issues

I learned while watching the video, that for you to overcome trust issues in your life, you need to be selfless. When you are self-centered, you feel the need other people’s approval; it is the root problem of trust issues. Also, when you think more of yourself, you begin to feel entitled to your partner. According to Pastor Creflo, “you have to consider your partner more than yourself.”

  • You deal with trust issues by stop expecting things from your spouse. Instead, do things that please your partners without expecting anything in return. Know this; when you walk in distrust, you consciously or unconsciously want to create an atmosphere of distrust.
  • Everything will be fine when both partners start focusing on how to make the other partner happy, instead of focusing on what the partners ought to do for them.
  • Trust God to change the life of your partner: a lot of us put more trust on their partners than we put on God.
  • Let whatever you have experienced in the past remain in the past, and trust in God our Heavenly Father to tell us who we are in Christ Jesus.

Who Are You In Christ?

Verses That Show Who We Are In Christ

Many believers are not aware of their redemptive power in Christ Jesus; they are not even aware of who they really are. That is why they fall prey to the devil’s lies. You see, the devil knows you and the power you have. Unfortunately, he knows you have no clue about your inheritance in Christ that is why he is trying so hard to make you believe he has power over you. Below are some of the verses that show who you are in Christ. Don’t just read and move on with life; you have to meditate on it until the word comes alive.

Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Five Verses That Reveals Who We Are In Christ

You Are The Image Of God

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

When you look at the mirror, what do you see? Do you know you are the spitting image of God? When God wanted to create you, He drew inspiration from within, unlike when He created the stars, the moon, etc. do not let the media define who is beautiful and who is not. To show you are how special you are when God was creating the earth, He didn’t seek anyone’s help, He just spoke the word, and everything manifested. However, when it came to you and me, God said, “let us.”

Genesis 1:26 “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”

You are His temple

1Corinthians 6:19-20 “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Being the temple of the Lord is not limited to living a holy life, it also means you are precious, God dwells inside of you, therefore, no sickness, diseases, etc. cannot dwell inside of you (God’s temple).

You Are Royalty

1 Peter 2:9 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar* people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”

One of the many benefits of salvation is the translation from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light. God has called us to be His representative here on earth. We are not born again to suffer again; we are born to reign as kings and queens in Christ.

You Are The Light Of The World

Matthew 5:14-16 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

As Christians, we are saved to show others the right way, the only true God. We are pacesetters; we live an exemplary life. It is an error to see Christians using the ways of the world to determine what is best for them. As the light of the world, we are to create godly examples, show the world the right way, and not the other way around. We do not have to tell people that we are Christians; our characters should be enough to let people know who we are.  The bottom line is, let your character bring people to Christ.

A Prophet to Nation

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”

Prophets are God’s messenger on earth, sent to liberate people from the vices of the devil and his agents.

What have you been doing lately? Are you preaching the Word of God to save lives? Are your actions in line with your identity in Christ? Can your colleagues, employer, husband, wife, or children boldly say you are a Christian? You don’t have to climb the pulpit to show everyone that you are God’s elect. Let your Character speak for you, let the words of your mouth bring peace, and love to people. Be the reason someone believes in God

Exploring The Bible

Techniques Of Studying The Bible

It is easy to put bible studying as one of our to-do lists as Christians. A lot of us hope to study more of the word of God, but find it difficult to finish. One hundred people may decide to start reading the bible as a New Year resolution, but only ten or five may complete the whole scriptures before the end of the year. The problem is not reading, or creating a timetable for the word of God, what some of us lack is the technique of studying the word of God, and this is the reason for this article. So, what are the techniques for studying the word of God?

Focus

It is easy to get carried away with the whole book; from Genesis to Matthew, from Malachi to Revelation- a lot of powerful messages lie there waiting for us to discover these truths. Sometimes it is overwhelming just thinking about it. The Bible is divided into two testaments; the old and the new testaments. No one is less important than the other; they both compliment each other. However, if you are a novice, starting with the New Testament will be easy to comprehend.

The Book Of John

The book of John is the easiest Gospel to study; it shows the identity of our Savior; read three chapters every day to get a good grasp of the author, topic, context, and characters. The book of John opens your understanding, prepares you for the next three chapters- Mark, Matthew, and Luke. In essence, from John, go to the book of Mark, back to Matthew, and finally the book of Luke. After reading the four books, you can move to the other chapters in the books in the Bible, except for Revelation. Revelation is filled with prophecies; you need to familiarize yourself with the Major Prophets in the Old Testament, before reading the last book of the New Testament.

Select The Topics To Study

This is another useful technique for studying the word of God; it is quite different from covering the Bible chapter by chapter. The subject index of most Bibles has specific areas of study. Once you have located an interesting topic, do a rough read through of the verses; it will give you a general preview of what the verses are all about. For instance, Obedience, Salvation and sin etc. you do not have to move on to the next chapter; take your time to understand the chapter before moving to the next, even if it means repeating the chapter.

Have A Notepad

It is not enough to read the bible; you have to keep account of your daily study. Ask yourself questions such as “who was there?” “What was happening?” “where is the story happening?” and “how did it end?”, And write them down in your notepad. Answering the questions will enhance your understanding. It can also tell if you understand what you have read.

Get highlighting pen for marking important stuff, or your “eureka moments” this is the reason you have to get your personal Bible; it is wrong to highlight someone else’s books or the bible.

Take Advantage Of The Cross References And Footnotes

Most bibles come with cross-references and footnotes; they are numbers and symbols that tell you to look other verse or chapter for more information. It also shows you if the verse was previously discussed. Cross-references and footnotes explain better and enhance your understanding of the chapters and the verses. In addition, follow the references in the study Bible back to the first time the word was used.

Avoid Distractions

It is easy to get distracted when doing something important, including study the bible. One way to focus on studies is to have a strict study time. Make sure nothing take your attention all through the time. Turn off the television or radio, find a quiet place where you can read without anyone distracting you. If you are reading in your room, put a sign on the door, to alert family members and friends that you need your time alone for a specified time. Switch off your mobile phones, laptops or anything that will tempt you to go online.

You can slate your study time for thirty minutes or one hour for a start, and then you can gradually increase the time as your body begin to tune in to the time naturally. Remember, it is not how long you spend studying the Bible; it is what you gain from the time you spend that matters. There is no point spending 2 hours in the study room and leave without achieving anything. If you feel after one hour of studying, you start feeling sleepy or lose concentration in what you are doing, then ensure your study time do not exceed one hour.

Encourage Yourself: As you study the Bible, I pray God opens your eyes to see and understand the mysteries in the Word of God. Have a productive New Year!
